Sorry for taking so long to post a new blog. Things are going well. Just recovering at this point. Learning what to eat and how to eat it has been the main focus these past few days. I was on clear liquids for the first 5 days of surgery then was able to keep down more substantial food like mashed potatoes and soups. Saturday, I was then able to switch to those foods and was scheduled to stay on that for 7 days. Tomato soup never tasted so good.
I had my first follow up visit on Monday. The incisions are healing nicely and Dr. Collier said that I can now move to pureed food because my progress was going so well. He was very pleased at how well things were going through the band, which made me feel really glad too. He provided me with some great resources to help with life after Lap-Band.
I must say that I am very pleased with Dr. Collier (and I am not getting a discount for saying this). He is very precise. He wants to make every effort to ensure things go well and are done correctly the first time. I appreciate that. He also has great bedside manner. He was joking around with me right after the surgery and even at the office. I appreciate that too.
The weight is coming off. Since surgery, I am down 14 lbs. Making it a total of 91 so far. I am excited for this new beginning of the rest of my life. I can tell the difference in my clothes and on my body. I have posted a picture of me at the heaviest I have been and where I am at today. I hope that you see the difference too.
The hunger isn't really an issue. It blows me away to think that I haven't had any "real" food for over two weeks. No burgers and fries, no pasta, no bread...and I am still alive. It is funny how mentally, we think that we "need" those things, but in reality we don't. Food, even though is pleasurable, is really just fuel to keep us going. I think that a majority of this journey will be a mental battle as much as a physical one as well. We will see...
